In less than two centuries our modern organizations have brought about sensational progress. None of the recent developments in our history, such as Human Resource Management or Change Management, would have been possible without all these organizations carrying human collaboration.
And yet… Many people sense that we’ve reached the limits of the current way we run organizations. At the recent Operational Excellence Summit in Amsterdam, we gathered feedback among 120 professionals of >50 different organizations on a number of topics that relate to organizational structure. The feedback results in the survey as well as the workshop confirm the ‘sense’ and research that current organizational structures correlate strongly with employee behavior and (dis)engagement, that they are ill-fit to rapidly respond to the fast-changing and volatile context and that the nature of work will be strongly impacted by the emerging of AI and robotics.
